Uncertain and changing economies have put increasing pressures on both employers and unions. If you’re involved with labour relations, it’s more important than ever to have a solid understanding of the law to work from.

Now in its eighth successful year, The Osgoode Certificate in Labour Law provides a comprehensive and practical overview of Ontario labour law.

Designed to meet the needs of labour relations and human resource professionals, union representatives, labour relations consultants, in-house counsel or anyone else involved with labour relations issues, this program provides comprehensive tools, accredited CPD hours, and a Certificate from one of the common-law world’s pre-eminent schools.

Over five intensive one-day modules, an expert faculty representing management, union and government perspectives will explore the key concepts of labour law and how they play out in real-world contexts. This is a unique opportunity to get not only a comprehensive overview but also “drill down” into the key issues and challenges that are likely to come across your desk. There will be an emphasis on the practical, and classes will be taught using a blended-delivery method that includes lectures, panel discussions, case studies and interactive workshops. You’ll also receive materials prepared by the speakers that will provide a valuable ongoing resource. Areas include:

  • Labour law foundations – the statutory and regulatory regime
  • Sector-specific labour relations (agricultural, Crown employees, hospitals, teachers, colleges, emergency services)
  • Union organizing and applications for certification
  • Collective bargaining
  • Grievance arbitration
  • Workplace investigations in a unionized environment
  • Restructuring unionized environments
  • The law of industrial conflict (including cease and desist applications, injunctions, and back-to-work legislation)
