As one of the therapeutic courts in Canada's criminal justice system, Drug treatment Courts aim to help reduce crime and substance abuse. Whether you are Crown Attorney, defence counsel or treatment provider, this new program will give you the insight you need to fully appreciate the potential value of this problem-solving court.

In this new program, you’ll hear from all parties involved in the Drug Treatment Court (DTC) process and gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between justice and treatment and how this specialty court can provide positive results for all.

Legal practitioners and treatment providers with significant DTC experience will discuss:

  • DTC fundamentals: legal framework, purpose, 13 key principles, eligibility and process
  • DTC’s relationship with other solution-focused courts in the criminal justice system
  • Ethical issues in DTC from both the legal and treatment perspectives
  • Nuts and bolts of a typical DTC case
  • Role of counsel and advocacy in a DTC: how does it differ from that in other courts

Once you click "Take Online Course" you will be forwarded to the Moodle page with the materials link. The program video link with be unlocked on the day of the program. You will have access to the video for 90 days.

Program Changes

We will make every effort to present the program as advertised, but it may be necessary to change the dates, location, speakers or content with little or no notice. In the event of program cancellation, York University and Osgoode Hall Law School’s liability is limited to reimbursement of paid fees.

Cancellations, Substitutions and Refunds

Substitution of registrants is permitted at any time. If you are unable to find a substitute, a full refund is available if a cancellation request is received in writing 14 days prior to the program date. If a cancellation request is made with less than 14 days notice, a $75 administration fee will apply. No other refund is available.
