As one of the therapeutic courts in Canada's criminal justice system, Drug treatment Courts aim to help reduce crime and substance abuse. Whether you are Crown Attorney, defence counsel or treatment provider, this new program will give you the insight you need to fully appreciate the potential value of this problem-solving court.

In this new program, you’ll hear from all parties involved in the Drug Treatment Court (DTC) process and gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between justice and treatment and how this specialty court can provide positive results for all.

Legal practitioners and treatment providers with significant DTC experience will discuss:

  • DTC fundamentals: legal framework, purpose, 13 key principles, eligibility and process
  • DTC’s relationship with other solution-focused courts in the criminal justice system
  • Ethical issues in DTC from both the legal and treatment perspectives
  • Nuts and bolts of a typical DTC case
  • Role of counsel and advocacy in a DTC: how does it differ from that in other courts

Don’t miss this unique program specifically designed for both lawyers and treatment providers (with or without DTC experience).
