The Professional LLM in Business Law is a two-year, part-time program designed for professionals from across Canada who want to develop greater expertise in this dynamic area of law. Market globalization, competition and technological changes have had a
significant impact on the
regulation of businesses in Canada and around the world. This cutting-edge LLM in Business
Law, taught by leading academics and practitioners, will cover, at an advanced level: Canadian
corporate law principles and rules, legal duties of directors and managers, rights of shareholders and other
stakeholders and remedies available to them. The program will involve an in-depth examination of corporate
finance and corporate structuring issues. It will also examine the current regulatory system, including
emerging international influences and trends. Designed for both business lawyers as well as non-legal professionals with the requisite domain knowledge of business law principles, students will leave this program equipped with a deep and
broad understanding of the most important theoretical and practical issues confronting business lawyers in
Canada today.
The degree requirements will be satisfied upon the completion of 36 credits. The
credits can be obtained by either coursework or a blend of coursework and a Major Research Paper.
The Advanced Legal Research Workshop is required for all students who wish to complete a Major Research Paper. Please note that this will not count towards the 36 credits required to complete the degree.
Courses will be offered in a combination of weekly and intensive formats. Videoconferencing is available for most
courses although occasional attendance in person in Toronto is required (refer to website for specific details on
each course).
