J. Michael Robinson, QC has practiced law with the same national and international law firm for 45 years.  His is a solicitor’s practice in business law (commercial and corporate, banking, lease finance and securities) with major concentration in international business, trade and investment law.  A specialty of his is public-private partnerships for large infrastructure projects in developing countries.

Mr. Robinson is an Adjunct Professor at the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, Toronto, where he taught in the LLB and LLM Programmes, first in 1981/82 and resuming in 2000.  He currently teaches international business transactions there in the LLM programme in International Business Law for foreign lawyers.  He is a member of the Adjunct Law Faculty at University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario where he has taught international business, trade and investment law since 2005. 

Mr. Robinson advised Canada on the negotiation of the 1989 Canada/US Free Trade Agreement and Mexico respecting the 1992 North American Free Trade Agreement (on financial services in each case).

In 2011 Mr. Robinson received the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in international law recognizing his lifetime practice and academic accomplishments. 

Mr. Robinson was Committee Chair and member of the Council of the Section on Business Law of the International Bar Association, London during his more than 25 years with that organization.  He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canada-US Law Institute of Case Western Reserve University Law School, Cleveland, Ohio and University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law, London, Ontario.

Mr. Robinson lectures and publishes widely in Canada and abroad.  He is the author of two texts on international securities law: Comparative Survey of Securities Law, (Kluwer, the Netherlands, 1980) and International Securities Law and Practice, (Euromoney Publications, London, 1985).  He has written scores of articles for Canadian and international Law Journals and has been a lecturer/presenter at dozens of Canadian and international conferences on business law subject. 

Mr. Robinson has been for decades active in many community and non-profit organizations.  He was a member of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee for 10 years of the US member of the world-wide, child-centered international development NGO, Foster Parents Plan (now “Plan”).  He is a member of the Board of Transparency International Canada Inc., the Canadian chapter of the world-wide anti-corruption NGO, Transparency International, based in Berlin.  He has also served as a director of several business corporations, including SAAB Automobile Canada Inc. and four Canadian subsidiaries of international banks from the USA, Korea, Singapore and The Netherlands.
