Pension and Benefit Entitlements Upon Marriage Breakdown

Originally held on March 21, 2011, the archived course is now available for purchase either as a video stream with downloadable link to materials; or on CD-Rom (audio archive with program materials).

Pension valuation is a notoriously contentious area in which subtle points can easily be missed, potentially costing your client thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. The allocation of benefits raises other challenging and often problematic issues. It is essential that counsel and other professionals working in this area know the intricacies of the current law (including the likely impact of Bill 133, with its potential to significantly alter the roles of lawyers, pension valuators and pension administrators).

This intensive Osgoode Professional Development program was developed for practitioners and professionals who need to update their knowledge, while also providing newer practitioners and professionals with the information and guidance they need in handling the division of pension and benefits. The program also provides the opportunity to reinforce participants’ understanding by applying this information to realistic fact situations.

You’ll leave this program with a thorough understanding of the critical issues and
how to address them in practice, along with the key questions you should be asking your client.
