The Curriculum
The ITAW focusses on learning through participation in simulated trial sessions, coupled with individual and group critique by experienced trial counsel and judges. Demonstrations are also used, but the major emphasis is on individual participation and performance. The organization, format, materials and teaching methods represent an important co-operative venture between academic instructors and practising members of the Bench and Bar. The teaching materials are based on those developed in the United States by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and adapted to Canadian court practices and procedures.

The Courthouse Trial
On the last days of the ITAW, each participant will conduct a civil trial together with a co-counsellor. These trials take place at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at 361 University Avenue, Toronto, and are presided over by judges or experienced practitioners. The trials provide an important opportunity to pull together the skills learned in the workshop. Participants also receive feedback on their trial performance.

Individual Feedback and Coaching
Each participant receives individual attention through the small group teaching environment. Groups of eight participants work with two (or more) instructors.

Participants get feedback and coaching from their instructors as well as through video-taping.
